In September 1991, ESF West Island School opened its doors to just 84 Year 7 students and 12 dedicated teachers. Housed in the historic red-brick building of the old British Military Hospital on Borrett Road, this modest beginning laid the foundation for a vibrant, forward-thinking learning community.
Grounded in our Hong Kong location, West Island School stood out from the start. We were the first ESF school to offer Mandarin lessons to all students and establish School Houses named after iconic Chinese Dynasties, an intentional embrace of Chinese language and culture that continues to enrich our students' local and global perspectives today.
Our campus and learning spaces continue to evolve along with our community's growth. Designed by award-winning architect Patrick Lau, our campus is a masterpiece of design, blending modern learning spaces into a natural hillside overlooking the sea. We offer advanced learning facilities to nurture creativity, innovation, and global competence.
