Our House System is built around six Chinese Dynasties: Han, Ming, Qing, Song, Tang and Yuan. These dynasties serve as the foundation for fostering identity, collaboration, and school spirit across all year groups. Every student, teacher, and staff member is allocated to one of these dynasties, creating a shared sense of belonging and community.

Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL) Units empower students to explore meaningful questions, build resilience and take ownership of their learning journey. Through collaboration, reflection and real-world application, students develop essential skills that prepare them for future academic and personal growth. IDL Week is a powerful experiential learning experience that shows how learning can extend far beyond the classroom walls at West Island School.

Student Leadership
While not every one of our students will want to be a leader - either in school or later in life, we recognise that leadership skills are important to all of us as we lead our lives. There are a variety of ways in which our young people can get involved, manage and lead either in the school or in the community.
