West Island School celebrates the success of all students for their achievements during an exceptional year. These results reflect the hard work of students and their teachers and everybody giving their best. Well done to you all.
IB Diploma Programme (IBDP)
Students study six subjects at either Higher Level (HL) or Standard Level (SL). The programme enables students to develop knowledge across a range of disciplines. Not only highly valued by the world's leading universities for its rigour and development of research skills, IB students understand the importance of service and action. Particular congratulations to Arya Panjwani and Kush Zingade who achieved an amazing score of 45 points. This is an outstanding achievement that puts each of them in the top 0.5% of IB candidates worldwide.

As well as studying individual subject areas, students write an extended essay exploring an area of personal interest: 67% of candidates achieved an A or B grade for their essay (37% Worldwide). Students also follow a course to explore 'Theory of Knowledge': 74% were awarded an A or B in their final assessment (45% Worldwide).
It is exceptional that nine students were awarded the Bilingual Diploma and were assessed for the language component in their first language. Congratulations to Cheung Ching Chan, Jeanne Josette Decamps, Megan Sze Ching Ho, Giselle Lee, Kanna Sum Yui Leung, Nina Michishita, César Philippe Raphael Rocher, Kaitlin Yuqing Tse and Chloe Young.

IB Career-related Programme (IBCP)
Year 13 students can study a Level 3 BTEC qualification (equivalent to UK A Level) and combine this with IB Diploma Courses. This is called the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP). Those interested in following the IBCP can tailor their programmes to pursue individual passions and interests choosing pathways that include BTEC courses in Engineering, Business Studies, Sports & Exercise Science, Digital Design and Performing Arts. The qualification is valued highly by a wide range of competitive universities and recognised for developing high levels of independence with analytical and evaluation skills applied to the subject area. 17 students have been awarded the IBCP this year. Congratulations to our top IBCP performers Tin Yuet Chu, Shannon Mae Harrison, Chloe Hei Yee Tso and Charlie Walsh.
BTEC
Year 13 students can study a combination of BTEC Diploma and Subsidiary Diploma qualifications (equivalent to 3 UK A Levels) and have the option to add in extra IB courses and courses studied at other ESF-affiliated institutions in Hong Kong. Congratulations to the top performers, Hoi Ying Skye Chan, Nadia Sunil Hemnani, Leon Edward Powell and Ira Amit Ratnaparkhi.

West Island School Engineering Pathway
Year 13 students can opt to study the BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Students usually add Higher or Standard levels in IB Maths, IB Physics or IB Computer Science to their programme to make a 4 or 5 A Level equivalent course. This year 6 students made up our graduating class, with 3 gaining outstanding BTEC D*D*D* results in addition to some impressive IB grades. Congratulations to Phoenix Akira Brooks, Jonas Lee Brantingham and Gabriel Lok Lung Yip.
