Creative Arts

Creative Arts

At West Island School, the Faculty of Creative Arts offers students rich opportunities to explore Drama & Dance, Film & Media Studies, Music, and Visual Arts—both within the curriculum and beyond the classroom. Students engage in hands-on learning, creative expression, and field trips that deepen their understanding and appreciation of the arts.

Each year, we proudly celebrate student talent and collaboration through a vibrant calendar of events, including theatre productions, concerts, cabarets, exhibitions, workshops, and more.

Dance & Drama

West Island School’s performance and production team, Circle in the Water, encourages every student to share their energy and unique talents with one another. Led by the Faculty of Arts, the team fosters a dynamic and enriched academic and creative environment that values people, relationships, collaboration and compassion.

Our annual theatre productions provide exciting opportunities for students to take the spotlight and shine on stage. West Island School is also proud to host the annual ESF Evening of Dance, where students from across ESF schools come together to showcase their teamwork, creativity and passion through dance.

Film & Media Studies

The innovation of our Film & Media Studies programme is reflected in our state-of-the-art filming equipment and creative teaching approach. Students are able to explore storytelling, production techniques, and media theory through hands-on experiences that inspire imagination and critical thinking.

Music

Our dedicated teaching team and well-equipped music facilities inspire students to explore music through technology, diverse genres, and various performance formats. Students are regularly given opportunities to showcase their talents on stage, both within the school and in the wider community.

Visual Art

Students cultivate a deep awareness of others, engage thoughtfully with ideas, and develop strong collaborative skills. The exceptional creativity of our students is celebrated annually at our GCSE Fine Art and Fashion & Textile Exhibition, the IB Art Exhibition and the ESF Art Exhibition, where their work is proudly showcased to the wider community.

Each year, we offer an inclusive access programme that welcomes a student from ESF Jockey Club Sarah Roe School (JCSRS) to join our Learning Support Centre (LSC) Visual Arts lessons, fostering shared learning and meaningful connections.
